Showcasing Elite Female Hockey in Western Canada
The GHC Calgary Fire AAA/AA Female Program and its volunteer members created the Calgary Firestarter Tournament in 2016. A tournament of this size raises the profile of AAA/AA female hockey in Western Canada and provides an opportunity for our athletes to diversify their competition pool. Its preseason timing also informs player selection for club teams.
Many athletes who compete in the Firestarter have committed to university or college teams in Canada and the United States. Our teams are a representation of the highest level of amateur female hockey in Western Canada.
The Firestarter Tournament is hosted and governed by Girls Hockey Calgary (GHC) and takes place in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
The GHC Calgary Fire teams compete in the Alberta Female Hockey League (AFHL), which is home to 30 teams at the U18 AAA, U18 AA, and U15 AA levels. GHC is one of 12 host associations around the province of Alberta.
GHC is governed and supported by Hockey Calgary, Hockey Alberta and Hockey Canada.
The Firestarter Tournament follows Hockey Canada Rules and Hockey Alberta Regulations.

Our U18 AAA Firestarter is attended in person and watched live via FloHockey by coaches, assistant coaches, and scouts from:
